Utah Valley Steps Up Against CPL Opponent

Utah Valley proved once again today that it can run with the big boys of college rugby, beating Colorado State 19-6 in Fort Collins. Utah Valley has now won the last 3 meetings between these two teams dating back to 2008 when this series began at the San Diego Invitational.
In blustery conditions in Fort Collins, the Utah Valley team won the toss and decided to utilize the strong wind in the first half and the decision proved to be the correct one, all 19 of Utah Valley’s points coming in the first half. The second half wasn’t without its opportunities, although some questionable handling and a few marginal calls went against the Utah Valley team and they were unable to add to their score.
Utah Valley Crushes BYU-Idaho
The Utah Valley Men’s Rugby team putting on a dazzling attacking display this afternoon in handing the visiting BYU-Idaho a 71-14 defeat in a 13 try scoring fest.
The Utah Valley team backed up their strong showing against Snow College by hammering a relatively inexperienced BYU-Idaho team with 11 tries. Prop Joe Carnation added to the score line with eight successful conversions from his 11 attempts. The game was much more open than the previous week and the Utah Valley backline responded to that in splendid fashion by accounting for seven of the UVU tries.
Utah Valley Has Physical Encounter With Snow College
Many in the Utah Valley Camp considered this the biggest game of the year, even though it fell in the second week of the season. But it didn’t fail to disappoint as the two finalists for the Utah Rugby Union Championship from a season ago battled it out in their first match since Snow College advanced onto the Pacific Coast Playoffs. Things were different this time around though and the new blood that has joined the Utah Valley team helped pull out a 12-7 victory in what is quickly becoming a rivalry game for both teams.
Utah Valley Finishes Strong Against Weber State
The Utah Valley Wolverines got their fall semester off to a great start with a 38-0 win over the Weber State Wildcats today in Ogden.
The two teams are familiar foes, regularly competing against each other in the Utah Rugby Union Division 2 competition. It was the first league game for both teams this semester and that was plain for all to see as the first phase of play had a decidedly scrappy feel to them. As each team started to settle in, the continuity came back and multiple attacking phases were starting to be strung together. Utah Valley had it’s fair share of attacking chances throughout the first spell, but found themselves coming up a pass short on several occasions. Weber State took a more direct approach and targeted the areas close to the rucks as the weak point in the Utah Valley defense. But for either teams attacking endeavors, the defense always came up the winner and the sides went into the water break at half time tied at zero.
